College Rep Visitation Dates

Parents and students are always looking for information regarding the "perfect" college. There is not only one college for everyone. Investigation, research, and study is extremely important. This site is designed to give you a comprehensive look at or link to information on colleges, majors, and financial aid and scholarships.

Tips for the College Search
Start early - as early as middle school
  Use all available resources
Resources - online, guidance, community, individual colleges, friends
Visit each college - the official tours and the weekend visits with students
Speak with alumni, especially recent graduates of each college
Make sure each college has the qualities you are seeking

Features to Consider when choosing a College:

  Size - small, medium, large
Small colleges offer small classes, low students teacher ratios, and a greater accessibility to faculty. Large colleges tend to have very large (300 students) introduction classes, higher student teacher ratios, and more contact with graduate assistants.

  Location - rural, urban, city
The location of the school often contributes to the personality of the college. It is also true that many colleges are often isolated from local life unless students venture out. Many colleges encourage students to become involved in their local community.

  Housing
Due to housing shortages, some colleges expect many students to live off campus during most of their time at the college. This often requires more monetary expenses than on campus housing. There are distinct advantages to remaining on campus for as long as possible.

  Cost
Although cost is a great consideration, do not rule out any college solely on the cost. Most students receive financial aid. Financial aid is based on the family's ability to pay as determined by the FAFSA. Many colleges offer merit based scholarships for students with a GPA of 3.0 or more. WAIT until the financial aid package arrives from the individual college before making a final decision.

  Academic Offerings
Make sure there are numerous areas of study that interest you at a particular college. Even if you "know" what you want to major in, many students change that major during their college years. It is important that the college offers a variety of study areas that appeal to you. Investigate the opportunities for internships, study abroad, and independent study.
